Job summary

TEKsystems, Bern-based, seeks a Systems Engineer to operate and extend an on‑premises cloud platform built on VMware stack and storage technologies. The role includes on‑call duties and full hardware lifecycle management of server infrastructure, from procurement to decommissioning.

Qualifications

• Vocational training or IT degree.
• Strong VMware vSphere/ESXi, VCF, and Aria Automation knowledge.
• Current Data Center Virtualization certifications (VCP/VCAP) are a plus.
• Strong data center infra knowledge (Compute/SAN/Storage) and hardware lifecycle management.
• Team player with agile experience and ability to work independently.
• Scripting/Programming (PowerShell, JavaScript) and REST APIs help automate tasks.
• Fluent English; German a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate and further develop the on‑prem cloud platform based on VMware, SLA, and on‑call duty.
• Manage the full hardware lifecycle: procurement, inventory, provisioning, replacements, repairs, and decommissioning.
• Support EVS/AWS migration projects to enable cloud transformation for internal customers.
• Identify and implement process and workflow improvements across the platform.

Title: Systems Engineer

Start/End Date: 16.11.2026 (expected) - 30.06.2027 (possibility of extension)

Location: Bern

Workload: 100% (min. 1 day/week on-site)

Your Responsibilities

• You ensure the operation and further development of the on-premises cloud platform based on Compute, SAN, Storage and VMware products (vSphere 8 / ESXi, VCF) and are willing to regularly participate in on‑call duty.
• You are responsible for the complete lifecycle management of the physical server infrastructure, from procurement, inventory management and provisioning to hardware replacement, repairs and decommissioning.
• In migration projects, particularly EVS/AWS, you support internal customers and enable them to successfully carry out their cloud transformation.
• You are responsible for identifying and implementing measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of processes and workflows.

Your Profile

• You have completed vocational training or a degree in IT and have solid knowledge of VMware vSphere / ESXi, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and VMware Aria Automation.
• You can demonstrate your practical experience through current certifications in Data Center Virtualization (VCP / VCAP). (Nice to have, not mandatory.)
• You have strong knowledge of data center infrastructure (Compute / SAN / Storage) as well as experience in hardware lifecycle management, including procurement, inventory management, and collaboration with manufacturers and service partners.
• You are a versatile team player with a passion for the reliable operation of complex infrastructure and actively contribute to the stability and further development of the platform.
• With your experience in agile processes and tools, as well as your ability to work independently, you make a significant contribution to the team's success.
• Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g. PowerShell, JavaScript) and experience working with REST APIs are a plus and support you in automating operational tasks.
• You communicate confidently in written and spoken English. Additional German language skills are an advantage.
