Amazon Data Services Switzerland GmbH is seeking a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician in Switzerland. You will independently troubleshoot and maintain electrical and mechanical systems within a large-scale data center infrastructure, responding to operational issues with a proactive, process-driven approach.

In this hands-on role, you’ll manage on-site contractors, support rack installation, Power and cooling provisioning, and work with Infra Ops teams to ensure uptime.

Description

We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to join our expanding team in Switzerland. As an Data Center Engineering Operations Technician, you’ll independently troubleshoot and maintain electrical and mechanical systems, and respond to operational issues with minimal supervision. Your work will help maintain one of the world’s largest information system infrastructures. If you enjoy hands‑on problem solving in a process-driven environment, we’d like to meet you!

Key job responsibilities

• On-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
• Maintain performance benchmarks, & prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations & maintenance.
• Generate Change Management requests & Incident Management tickets as directed.
• Learn and contribute to documentation relevant to business & facility operations.
• Assist with rack installation and the provision of power/cooling.
• Become involved with routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, cooling equipment, building monitoring systems, etc.
• Assist and learn about the design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities.
• Assist with the management of facility assets.
• Participate in Construction & Operational Meetings as required.
• Assist with Work Order compliance and review of contractual SLAs.
• Interface with Infra Ops teams for day to day operational requirements.
• Assist in the resolution of any infrastructure engineering or services issue.
• Delivery of exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
• Meet daily hours of operations, on-call requirements for response outside of hours and potential future shift rotations.

Your Day-to-day Activities Will Include

• Monitoring alarms and systems that manage power, cooling, and fire suppression in the data center.
• Coordinating vendor work on-site to ensure equipment is maintained and uptime is preserved.
• Supporting other teams and sites during events and planned works.
• Handling rack installations and powering up equipment.
• Monitoring and facilitating the handover of new equipment.
• Sharing knowledge and supporting new team members.
• Participating in event response drills.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with electrical or mechanical systems, or equivalent
• Knowledge of data center infrastructure including mechanical, electrical, controls and life safety systems
• Familiarity with reading technical documentation and drawings
• Computer literacy with Windows and common business applications
• Fluency in English
• Valid Swiss work permit required
• Electrical or Mechanical Engineering diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls), or knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in mission critical facilities (data center, oil and gas, marine industries, production or medical facilities)
• Diploma or Degree in relevant technical field
• Swiss electrical switching certification
• Fluency in German
