Job summary

ELCA Switzerland and Europe is seeking a Senior System Engineer based in Lausanne or Geneva to lead Microsoft-based infrastructure projects, support, and architecture in the Platform department.

You will design, implement, and operate Windows Server, AD, SQL Server, IIS, virtualization (VMware, Proxmox), and automation with PowerShell, Terraform and Puppet, collaborating with engineers, architects, and customers to ensure security and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience with Windows Server ecosystem (AD, GPO, DNS) and SQL Server.
• Proven ability to design and operate robust Microsoft-based infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain, and evolve Microsoft-based environments (Windows Server, AD, WSUS, SQL Server, IIS).
• Administer and optimize virtualized environments (VMware ESXi, vCenter; VM lifecycle management).
• Design and optimize system architectures for performance, scalability, and security.
• Monitor infrastructure health and proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Provide 2nd-level and advanced support, handling complex incidents and root cause analysis.
• Automate operations using PowerShell, Puppet, Rundeck, and Terraform.
• Manage lifecycle of Microsoft systems, ensuring stability and security.
• Share knowledge and contribute to standards, documentation, and best practices.

Your Role

As a Senior System Engineer, you will report to the team leader of the System Team in the Platform department. You will play a key technical role in the implementation, evolution, and operational stability of Microsoft-based infrastructure platforms, both internally and for our clients.

You will act as a technical reference within the team, contributing to system design decisions, operational best practices, and continuous improvement of our services. In this role, you combine strong hands‑on expertise with the ability to anticipate issues, standardize solutions, and collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, and customers.

In the team you will oversee:

• Implement, maintain, and evolve Microsoft-based environments (Windows Server, Active Directory, WSUS, SQL Server, IIS, etc.)
• Administer and optimize virtualized environments (VMware ESXi, vCenter; VM lifecycle management)
• Design and optimize system architectures to ensure performance, scalability, and security
• Monitor infrastructure health and proactively identify and resolve potential issues
• Provide 2nd-level and advanced support, handling complex incidents and root cause analysis
• Automate operations using tools like PowerShell, Puppet, Rundeck, and Terraform
• Manage the lifecycle of Microsoft systems, ensuring they remain stable, secure and up to date
• Share knowledge and contribute to technical standards, documentation, and team best practices

Your expertise covers some or all the following:

• Windows Server and Microsoft ecosystem (AD, GPO, IIS, SQL Server, WSUS, RDS, DFS)
• Virtualization (VMware vSphere, proxmox)
• Backup solutions (Veeam)
• Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, proxy, load balancers)
• Scripting and automation (PowerShell, python)
• Monitoring tools (CheckMK or similar)
• Infrastructure as Code / configuration management(Terraform, Puppet)

Additional strengths:

• Exposure to public cloud platforms(AWS, Azure)
• Experience with Linux administration (Debian, RHEL)
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Ability to document and share knowledge
• Customer-oriented mindset with good communication skills

The position is based in Lausanne or Geneva. Excellent written and spoken French and English are required; proficiency in German is an asset.
