ITech Consult Basel seeks an experienced Research Histopathology Technologist to support tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and staining for mammalian samples. You will work within the Tissue & Spatial Technologies Platform to enable platform onboarding and close collaboration with disease-area experts.

The ideal candidate holds a life sciences degree with 3+ years of hands-on histology, excellent manual dexterity, and fluent English.

Responsibilities

  • Execute end-to-end workflows for tissue specimens including embedding, sectioning, and staining (IHC/ISH/IF) and digital pathology.
  • Perform quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting of histology instruments to ensure data quality.
  • Provide training and support for histology equipment and collaborate to optimize tissue assays in early drug discovery.
  • Stay current with scientific literature and integrate new histology approaches as needed.

Research Histopathology Technologist: Histology Laboratory / Cryosectioning / mammalian tissues / fixation, embedding / sectioning / Staining / in vitro samples English

Background:

The Tissue & Spatial Technologies Platform in the 360 Labs Initiative is seeking an experienced, highly-motivated and collaborative histopathology technologist to provide focused histology services and enable user on-boarding and support for the platform's open lab. The successful candidate will have a robust background in the histological preparation of mammalian tissues and will work as a part of a matrix team, collaborate closely with experts from each of our therapeutic disease areas and functions to advance early drug discovery and participate in the early implementation and growth of the Histopathology Platform within the pRED organization.

The Perfect Candidate:

holds a university degree in the life sciences or a laboratory technologist background with at least three years of hands-on histology experience. They possess exceptional technical skills in handling mammalian and delicate tissues-such as cryopreserved nervous-system samples and organoids-mastering everything from fixation to staining, equipment maintenance, and regulatory assay documentation. Furthermore, they combine strong manual dexterity and detail-oriented problem-solving with fluent English communication skills to thrive autonomously in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Execute end-to-end workflows for tissue specimens, including processing, embedding, sectioning, staining (including immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH) and immunofluorescence (IF)) and digital pathology techniques such as whole slide scanning;
  • Perform quality control, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting across a range of histology lab instruments to ensure high-quality data production;
  • Provide training and support in the use of histology equipment, and collaborate with laboratory scientists to optimize tissue-based assays in early drug discovery research projects;
  • You embrace a continuous learning mindset by actively engaging with the scientific literature to stay up to date on new technologies/approaches used in the histopathology space.
Must Haves:
  • You hold a university degree in the life sciences or are a Laboratory Technologist with at least 3 years of histology laboratory experience
  • You have exceptional skills in the histological preparation of mammalian tissues, including hands-on experience in fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, along with an in-depth knowledge of the operation and maintenance of histological laboratory equipment, and a solid understanding of regulations for assay documentation to ensure high-quality data generation
  • You are a skilled experimentalist with a keen attention to detail along with robust manual dexterity and precision handling of delicate samples, such as cryopreserved nervous-system tissues, to ensure accurate and reproducible tissue preparation (e.g. cryosectioning, sectioning of in vitro samples such as organoids
  • Customer-focused with a drive for growth and a questioning mindset. Skilled in creative problem-solving, organization, and implementing innovative ideas efficiently in a fast-paced research context;
  • Excellent communicators with a high fluency in English, a desire to continuously build a personal network and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development.
