Job summary

Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina at 1800m invites a seasoned Head of Engineering to lead our technical team and ensure safe, smooth operation of the hotel’s facilities. You will oversee maintenance, safety, and the management of all technical equipment, from alarm systems to swimming pools, reporting to the General Manager.

The ideal candidate has vocational technical training, several years in facilities management within hospitality, and strong German and English communication skills.

Qualifications

• Education: vocational training in a technical or skilled trade (electrical, HVAC, plumbing or equivalent).
• Experience: several years in maintenance/facilities management within hospitality.
• Skills: strong technical leadership, problem-solving, decisive in emergencies.
• Languages: German and English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and operational safety across hotel operations.
• Supervise handling, servicing and maintenance of all technical equipment and alarm systems.
• Conduct inspections, generate defect reports and coordinate repairs.
• Obtain quotes, negotiate service contracts, and manage external contractors.
• Lead the technical team, onboard and train staff, and report to General Manager.

As Head of Engineering, you will work alongside your team to ensure the smooth operation, maintenance and technical safety of our prestigious, traditional hotel. If you are highly organised, technically skilled and possess strong leadership qualities, join us in making our guests' stays truly unforgettable.

Your Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Operational Safety: Oversee the maintenance of the entire hotel operation and take responsibility for overall technical safety throughout the property.
• Technical Management: Supervise the proper handling, servicing and maintenance of all technical equipment, machinery, tools, alarm systems and swimming pool facilities.
• Quality & Defect Control: Conduct regular inspections throughout the hotel to monitor the condition of the property, prepare defect reports and coordinate the professional resolution of any issues identified.
• Supplier & Quotation Management: Obtain quotations, negotiate service contracts, coordinate external specialist contractors in the event of major damage and award contracts in consultation with the General Manager.
• Leadership & Team Development: Lead your team of technicians, oversee onboarding and ongoing training, conduct daily meetings and technical team meetings, and report directly to the General Manager.

This is you

• Education: Successfully completed vocational training in a technical or skilled trade, such as electrical engineering, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing or a comparable field.
• Experience: Several years of professional experience in a similar maintenance or facilities management role, ideally within the hospitality industry.
• Skills & Competencies: Strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, sound decision-making abilities in emergency situations, and a structured, reliable approach to work.
• Languages: Very good command of German and English. Additional languages are an advantage.
