Connective is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all.

ROLE PURPOSE

In this position you provide various support to clients within a residential setting to meet the clients emotional, personal and physical needs. We designed this position to foster learning of its incumbent and will provide hands-on learning opportunities.

Our Individualized Community Living Residential programs are designed to offer a person-centered and structured living environment for adults. These individualized residential programs focus on monitoring residents for safe community living. The residents can acquire the skills needed to become responsible, independent, and contributing members of society, all within the program policies, procedures and individuals care plan.

STATUS

  • This is an exempt position.
  • This is a temporary Summer 2025 position for 8 weeks (subject to change).
  • This position is open to applicants of all genders.
  • This position is subject to Connective receiving funding.

HOURS

  • This position is 35 hours per week (subject to change)
  • Hours must be completed between Monday and Friday 9:00 am and 5:00 pm (as per grant rules)
  • All hours of this position must be completed by Friday August 30, 2025 (as per grant rules)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understanding of providing service to people with mental health challenges, intellectual disabilities and/or different learning abilities
  • Learn to develop programs tailored to the particular diverse needs of the individual served
  • Working with clients with a developmental disability and/or spectrum disorders, interaction with social agencies, experiencing psychiatric/personality disorders and history of conflict with the law
  • Gain experience in assessment, case/care plan development and implementation
  • MANDT Training (Crisis-Intervention)
  • Naloxone Training
  • Training 1:1 with Manager or designate 3-4 days – more provided if required
  • Review of all applicable Policy and Procedures
  • Systems training, student will be trained on all applicable systems to complete responsibilities
  • Will have an opportunity to take service sector related webinars and/or other trainings

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As a Residence Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Acts as a positive role model for clients, providing behavior management, and life skills training as required
  • Meets with each resident on a routine basis to discuss progress and plan future goals
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational, employment, and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of each client
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and consults with team psychologist and psychiatrists to develop, implement, maintain, and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Working with other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

We seek candidates who meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
  • Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Post-Secondary educational background in Social Services/Criminology/Psychology
  • Meet all the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Grant
  • Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check/Enhanced Security Clearance and reference checks
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate

COMPENSATION

Compensation for this position will be $25.95.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
