This is an exciting opportunity to lead the CDR institution building activities for the ground-breaking State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (SoCDR) initiative as it enters a new phase. The SoCDR team is seeking an incisive and dynamic Head of Partnerships to disseminate SoCDR messages at senior levels worldwide and to establish a long-term institutional structure for CDR tracking and capability building globally.
Building on insights and processes from the SoCDR project, the successful candidate will work with stakeholders to explore and refine the concept of an international carbon removal institution designed to accelerate responsible CDR through providing data and advice. Working closely with international organizations, governments, and others, the Head of Partnerships will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of CDR.
Based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Head of Partnerships will be part of the SoCDR core team, alongside the Program Manager, Communications and Events Lead, and Data Lead. The role operates under the guidance of the Executive Team, comprising members from the University of Oxford, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), University of Maryland, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. The candidate must be willing to travel internationally regularly.
CDR is emerging as a crucial component of climate action. The State of CDR initiative aims to establish a reliable, independent, open, and scientific assessment of the state of play, providing valuable data and insights to policymakers, investors, journalists, and researchers.
The first report was published in January 2023, with the second in June 2024. These reports have estimated global CDR deployment, identified gaps in proposed CDR by countries, and quantified research, innovation, and public perceptions. All reports and data are available at https://www.stateofcdr.org.
