Job description

City University of Seattle in Canada is looking for a qualified Regional Program Director to join its outstanding team of faculty and staff in the Master of Counselling program in the School of Health and Social Sciences. Work is conducted in a hybrid format, with on-site activities primarily taking placeat the Vancouver campus and bi-annual visits to the Saanich campus. Ideal candidates have experience in post-secondary educational program coordination and administration, have a relevant doctoral degree, are a registered psychologist with clinical experience or counselling professional registered with BCACC or a registered governing body.

Job Summary :

The Regional Program Director reports to the Vice President of Canadian Academic Programs, BC, and is responsible for ensuring a quality student experience. The Director engages the program team through collaborative leadership and management to ensure a rich learning experience for students and program excellence through continuous improvement in program design, assessment, technology integration, and curriculum development. The Director provides guidance and leadership to Associate Program Directors, Continuing, Term, and Associate Faculty and staff, fosters student development, and actively engages in academic governance. The Director looks to develop opportunities for new certificates, specializations, and related degrees to best serve BC learners and communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Program Management

In alignment with the academic governance model, plans, organizes, directs, and monitors program operations, including the program budget, student success, faculty scheduling, hiring and retention, and curriculum assessment, review, and development. Maintains program relevance and leads the effort to review and revise the program to enhance the student learning experience through an annual peer review process. Advises on enrolment targets and coordinates with senior management to meet them. Coordinates the periodic external review of the program and contributes to the periodic application for renewal of provincial consent to offer the degree.

  • Teaching Excellence

Teaches twocourses a year or the equivalent, within compensation, as assigned to ensure the quality of program and student learning experience. Models excellence in teaching and learning and fosters student development.

  • Performance of faculty and staff management

Oversees Associate Program Directors, staff and teaching faculty performance to ensure program quality. In alignment with the governance model, provides leadership in hiring, developing, evaluating, and managing expectations of faculty and staff. Ensures effective orientation, training, mentoring, and coaching for faculty and staff to foster a respectful and empowering learning environment.

  • Curriculum Development and Review

Leads the faculty to ensure the program curriculum aligns with CityU Academic Model and focuses on application and current practice. Consults broadly with stakeholders to ensure relevance of curriculum in a dynamic provincial environment. Ensures alignment of the program with provincial education and provincial and national professional accreditation standards.

  • Student Learning and Development

Oversees and advocates for inclusive approaches to student learning and engagement, including decolonizing and Indigenizing pedagogy and activities. Proactively works with faculty to further build on students' capacity to be responsible, ethical, and self-directed professionals and members of the community. Responsible for interviewing and selecting students for the program and overseeing internship opportunities. Works with faculty to adhere to provincial standards of education for the capstone in a way that also respects the academic and cultural diversity of learners.

  • Academic and Institutional Governance

Provides critical input to academic and institutional governance through leadership and participation on councils and committees. Ensures best practices and administrative fairness in the development and application of policies and procedures. Ensures relevance of the Program Advisory Committee through ongoing membership engagement and renewal. Supports and consults with student cohort or program representatives to hear and respond to feedback.

  • Currency and Scholarship

Maintains currency in profession and scholarly work. Advances a culture of scholarship to ensure faculty currency. Models, promotes, and facilitates faculty scholarship in teaching and learning andrelevant disciplines.

  • Service and Outreach

Actively engages with stakeholders to inform program relevance, build collaborative relationships and potential partnerships. Liaises with professional regulators to ensure program congruence with regulator requirements and responsiveness to a dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Counselling Psychology or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in teaching, preferably in both in-class and online modes of educational delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education management, leadership, governance and curriculum development. Able to lead annual strategic planning and implement strategies to meet goals.
  • Demonstrated practice of leadership in a collaborative, student-centred and inclusive environment committed to continuous improvement.
  • Experience engaging students and faculty in teaching and learning practices consistent with First People's Principles of Learning.
  • Ability to address student academic-related issues and concerns following policy and procedure and apply principles of administrative fairness in support of retention and student success.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities in person and in virtual modes.
  • Ability to engage with and build partnerships with external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and learning management systems in support of quality teaching and learning.

  • Reliable internet connection is a prerequisite.

Salary information :

CAD 90,000 - 115,000 / year.
