Job Description
The Department of Natural Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) is seeking applications for a full-time, Instructional Assistant Professor position in Biology with expertise in Microbiology. The appointment will begin in Spring 2026. A successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate biology courses, including lecture and laboratory components, a commitment to student-centered teaching and the use of evidence-based instructional practices in the STEM fields, experience with undergraduate mentorship, and evidence of service at their institutions.
Biology is the largest program in the Department of Natural Sciences with over 800 majors and offers three undergraduate degrees: a BS, BA, or a BS with teacher certification in Biology. Within our BS degree program there are multiple tracks; cellular and molecular biology, zoology, ecology, and pre-health professions. As an instructional faculty member of the Biology team at a rapidly growing, aspirational university, faculty are expected to actively engage in curriculum development and improvement, student success initiatives, and recruitment activities. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory instruction in microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, bacteriology, and molecular biology as well as entry-level biology courses. Enhancing student success in these foundational courses is a high priority for the university. The current teaching load for instructional faculty with service obligations is 4/4. Faculty are expected to contribute service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
