Overview

Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? Do you want to extend your nursing knowledge? We have a training opportunity that may interest you. We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

Reporting to the Unit Manager, this Maternity focused position identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care required to assist patients in meeting their physical, social, and psychological needs. The Registered Nurse is guided by BCCNM standards of Nursing Practice.

Training Program Details
  • There are 2 training positions available for 2025/2026.
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required.
  • Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning.
  • Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, will be required to successfully complete the program.
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary.
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department.
  • Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00.

Dawson Creek & District Hospital Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. It has 31 Acute Care beds and 15 regional adult psychiatric beds. Dawson Creek is the Orthopaedic Trauma and Surgical centre for the Northeast Region of BC. Services include: Emergency, ICU, Day Surgery, Respiratory Therapy, Primary Care, Acute Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory. Visiting specialists include Urology, Dermatology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Construction is underway on the new Dawson Creek & District Hospital, anticipated to open in Spring 2027. This state-of-the-art facility will be over 50% bigger than the current hospital and will feature 70 beds, modern patient care spaces, and expanded and enhanced services to meet the growing needs of the community. Dawson Creek Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. The city is also known as the Mile Zero City, as it marks the start of the Alaska Highway, a 2,400 km long highway connecting Alaska and the Yukon to Western Canada and the United States. Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500 and serves approximately 20,000 in the local area, with the Peace River Region population around 60,000. Qualifications
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Current Level C CPR certification required.
  • Labor and Delivery / Recovery / Post Partum: Two (2) years recent related experience with a significant labour and delivery component, working in an acute care setting and/or recent completion of an Advanced Obstetrical Certificate and/or recent Midwifery Certificate. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification.
