Reporting to the Director, GWI Audit, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Evaluating the design and operation of internal controls on projects within the Global Wealth and Insurance audit universe, focusing on Scotia bank’s insurance businesses (Creditor and non-creditor).
• Acting as Officer-In-Charge for moderate to complex projects, processes, and units.
• Ensuring department standards are met in all assignments.

Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

• Manage audit planning for areas of moderate to high complexity, ensuring scope, timing, and resources are appropriate.
• Develop understanding of business risks and processes for assigned projects.
• Update Audit Project Outlines and Audit Programs as needed.
• Identify strategic changes impacting the Audit Plan and risk assessment.
• Contribute to the Annual Audit Plan.

• Assess the effectiveness of internal controls through audits.
• Manage and execute audit activities independently, ensuring sufficient testing.
• Coordinate resources as Officer-In-Charge for risk coverage.
• Document all audit work using TeamMate software.

• Identify and assess control weaknesses, determine causes, and recommend mitigations.
• Review audit findings and follow up on issues.

• Draft clear and concise audit reports and correspondence.
• Review reports from team members when Officer-In-Charge.
• Maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
• Contribute to quarterly and annual audit reports.

• Adhere to HR policies.
• Guide and coach staff, provide feedback, and support professional development.
• Prepare performance assessments and development plans.
• Engage in continuous self-development and knowledge sharing.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in the insurance industry and/or in-depth knowledge of insurance (preferred).
• 5+ years in insurance, finance, accounting, or asset management, with audit experience in these areas.
• University degree; accounting designation (CPA) and industry courses (CFA, CFP) are assets.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Visio, and data analysis tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
• Knowledge of audit software (e.g., TeamMate).
• Self-motivated, results-oriented, highly organized, with strong communication skills.
• Spanish language skills are an asset.
