Purpose
Reporting to the Director, GWI Audit, the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Evaluating the design and operation of internal controls on projects within the Global Wealth and Insurance audit universe, focusing on Scotia bank’s insurance businesses (Creditor and non-creditor).
- Acting as Officer-In-Charge for moderate to complex projects, processes, and units.
- Ensuring department standards are met in all assignments.
Accountabilities
Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
Audit Planning
- Manage audit planning for areas of moderate to high complexity, ensuring scope, timing, and resources are appropriate.
- Develop understanding of business risks and processes for assigned projects.
- Update Audit Project Outlines and Audit Programs as needed.
- Identify strategic changes impacting the Audit Plan and risk assessment.
- Contribute to the Annual Audit Plan.
Auditing and Execution
- Assess the effectiveness of internal controls through audits.
- Manage and execute audit activities independently, ensuring sufficient testing.
- Coordinate resources as Officer-In-Charge for risk coverage.
- Document all audit work using TeamMate software.
Problem Identification
- Identify and assess control weaknesses, determine causes, and recommend mitigations.
- Review audit findings and follow up on issues.
Reporting and Communication
- Draft clear and concise audit reports and correspondence.
- Review reports from team members when Officer-In-Charge.
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual audit reports.
HR Management
- Adhere to HR policies.
- Guide and coach staff, provide feedback, and support professional development.
- Prepare performance assessments and development plans.
- Engage in continuous self-development and knowledge sharing.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in the insurance industry and/or in-depth knowledge of insurance (preferred).
- 5+ years in insurance, finance, accounting, or asset management, with audit experience in these areas.
- University degree; accounting designation (CPA) and industry courses (CFA, CFP) are assets.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Visio, and data analysis tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
- Knowledge of audit software (e.g., TeamMate).
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, highly organized, with strong communication skills.
- Spanish language skills are an asset.
