Job summary

Wolastoqiyik Family Services is seeking team members for in-person roles to support First Nation families, youth and elders. You will engage in counselling, promote family and community connections, and help youths set actionable goals within a culturally grounded framework.

The role emphasizes empathy, respectful communication, and crisis intervention with pathways to supervisor support as needed. A valid license and a vulnerable-sector background check are required.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Human Services, Child and Youth, Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor's degree.
• Experience with autism, mental illness, learning disabilities or behavioral issues acceptable.
• CR round with vulnerable sector screening and valid driver's license required; First Aid asset.

Responsibilities

• Foster growth and positive life choices and connect individuals to community and First Nation traditions.
• Maintain a therapeutically oriented home environment aligned with clients' treatment goals with respectful communication.
• Assist youth/clients in identifying goals and an action plan for implementation.
• Address crisis, provide counselling, defuse critical incidents, and refer to supervisor as needed.
• Exercise good judgment in crisis situations and act promptly when required.

Job Description

• Foster growth and positive life choices, while promoting individuals in becoming connected to their community and First Nation traditions.
• Maintain a social and emotional climate within the alternative home that is therapeutically oriented and follows the clients’ treatment goals to include communicating with the client in a respectful and professional manner exhibiting empathy and understanding.
• Assist youth/child in identifying attainable short and long-term goals, strategies for meeting these goals, and an action plan for implementation.
• Address serious behavior, mental health, emotional, and addictions struggles through counselling, implementing special covenant, defusing/managing critical incidents, supportive relationships, and referrals to your supervisor to aid in other programs and or community service providers.
• Exercise good judgment in making quick decisions if required to act in a crisis.

Qualifications:

Degree or Diploma in any of the following:

• Human Services
• Child and Youth
• Early Childhood Education
• A Bachelors Degree

OR

Demonstrated experience workingwith individuals with any of the following: autism, mental illness, learningdisabilities, behavioral issues, special needs, etc.

Other requirements:

• Criminal Record check with vulnerable sector screening, Social Development Check and drivers abstract.
• Valid driver's license
• Training in First Aid, Suicide intervention, non-violent crisis intervention etc. will be considered an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.00-$19.00 per hour
