Job summary

Family Dynamics is seeking a Community Support Worker to join the team at the Resource Centre. The role supports frontline community services, assists with programs, and helps create a welcoming and responsive presence within the centres.

The CSW works with the Family & Community Development Coordinator, participates in program planning, and contributes to a supportive team environment. There is a one-year term with potential extension and a Pathways Program for professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the Resource Centre to deliver programs.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment for participants and visitors.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and enhance Resource Centre programming.
  • Greet visitors, answer calls, and handle general inquiries professionally.
  • Assist participants by providing information and referrals as needed.
  • Build trusting relationships while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Supervise and engage children with age-appropriate activities.
  • Facilitate drop-in services and core programs delivery.
  • Assist with planning of specialized programs like Basics of Babysitting.
  • Provide coverage for Resource Centre, child, and youth programming as required.
  • Coordinate and distribute clothing donations and community resources.
  • Participate in meetings and committees contributing ideas.
  • Maintain program records and assist with newsletters and flyers.
  • Help upkeep of spaces, organize materials, and assist with meals.

Job description

Location:Donwood Family Resource Centre,

Hours of Work : 24 hours a week (7:00a.m. - 11:00am Monday - Friday)

Location: Westgrove Family Resource Centre

Hours of Work: 24 hours a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays)

One year term with possibility of extension

The Community Support Worker (CSW) works alongside the Family & CommunityDevelopment Coordinator to provide frontline community support focused on buildingrelationships with community members, supporting daily centre operations, assisting withprograms and services, and creating a welcoming and responsive presence within theResource Centre.The CSW position is part of a Pathways Program, designed to both strengthen ResourceCentre services and provide professional development opportunities within thecommunity.

Duties
  • Support the daily operations of the Resource Centre to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and responsive environment for participants, families, and visitors.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to plan, deliver, and enhance ResourceCentre programming.
  • Greet visitors, answer and direct phone calls, and respond to general inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Assist participants by providing information, addressing needs, and referring complex or specialized inquiries to the appropriate staff member.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Supervise and engage children through age-appropriate activities and play.
  • Facilitate drop-in services and support the delivery of core Resource Centre programs.
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of specialized programs, including Basics of Babysitting, Ready Set Solo, Bookmates, and preschool programming.
  • Provide coverage and support for Resource Centre, child, and youth programming as required.
  • Coordinate, organize, and distribute clothing donations and other community resources.
  • Participate in team meetings, committees, and working groups by contributing ideas and supporting organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate program records and assist with the development and distribution of newsletters, community flyers, and other communication materials.
  • Support the upkeep of the Resource Centre by organizing spaces, maintaining cleanliness, preparing program materials, and assisting with meal and snack preparation.

    challenge that comes with dual roles of a community member and a resource centre
    staff member
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity; being able to engage with participants from avariety of backgrounds with differing beliefs, values and experiences
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment and with a broad array ofpeople
  • Knowledge of child development, behavior management, family dynamics,interpersonal communication and conflict resolution.
