Job summary

Good Shepherd Family Centre in Ontario is seeking staff for weekend shifts, providing assessment, housing-based case management, crisis prevention and counselling to service users. The role includes residential duties, safety checks, door/phone duties, and program support in a shelter setting.

The position requires post-secondary education in Social Services or related field, with knowledge of homelessness and related issues, and a commitment to trauma-informed, housing-first practices.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Social Services or a related field is required.
• Experience in a residential setting is preferred.
• Minimum 1-year related experience in community outreach or emergency shelter, and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field.
• Knowledge of homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use is required.
• Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first frameworks.
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload.
• Ability to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team.
• CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required.
• A valid G license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to service users including assessment, intake, housing-based case management, crisis prevention/intervention, counselling, advocacy and linkages with community services.
• Residential tasks such as laundry, cleaning, unit turnovers, inventory and inspections to ensure safe operation.
• Maintain safety by hourly facility checks, answering phones/doors, and weekly unit inspections.
• Respond to barriers faced by service users with appropriate sensitivity.
• Protect confidentiality of service user information and sensitive program data.
• Comply with Good Shepherd health and safety rules and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
