Job summary

Good Shepherd in Hamilton, Ontario, seeks a Senior Shelter Support Worker to assist residents in a housing-focused shelter environment, including support for pets. You will work under a multidisciplinary team to improve shelter operations and resident outcomes.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in housing/homelessness, a social services qualification, and expertise in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction. A compassionate, client-centred approach is essential.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in housing and homelessness services, focusing on residential settings.
• Diploma or degree in a social services field is required.
• Advanced crisis intervention skills and knowledge of mental health and addiction support.
• Ability to work in a lower-barrier, housing-focused shelter environment with diverse adults.

Responsibilities

• Support residents, including couples and people with pets, in a housing-focused shelter.
• Provide housing-focused case management anchored in Housing First principles.
• Deliver crisis intervention, strengths-based supports, referrals, advocacy and counselling.
• Maintain professionalism with excellent communication and documentation.
• Apply harm reduction, trauma-informed, anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks.
• Assist with shelter operations and staff onboarding as directed.
