Job summary

Good Shepherd Hamilton & Toronto is hiring for a part-time role supporting shelter residents through intake, housing-based case management, and crisis intervention. You will assist with education, advocacy, and linkages to community services, while performing residential tasks to maintain a safe environment.

Candidates should have post-secondary education in Social Services, at least 1 year in outreach or shelter settings, and a commitment to a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive framework.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Social Services or related field required.
• Minimum 1 year experience in community outreach or emergency shelter.
• Knowledge of issues affecting families including homelessness, violence against women/children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use.
• Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first framework.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to service users including assessment, intake, housing-based case management, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, accompaniment to viewings and appointments, facilitating long term housing success, and linkages with other community services.
• Residential tasks such as house laundry, cleaning common spaces, unit turnovers, unit inventory, unit inspections, and other tasks required for safe operation of the program.
• Maintain the safety and security of the shelter by completing hourly facility checks, answering phones and doors, and weekly unit inspections.
• Recognize and respond to the unique barriers faced by service users.
• Respect and protect the confidentiality of service user information and other sensitive information.
• Observe all OHSA health and safety rules and comply with regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and property.
