Job summary

Ciena is seeking a motivated student for a four-month hardware engineering internship starting January 2027 in Ottawa, Canada. You will work with experienced engineers on design, qualification, manufacturing, and lifecycle management of WaveLogic optical products, gaining exposure to electrical design, lab validation, and cross-functional development.

The role emphasizes hands-on hardware debugging, data analysis of yield, and familiarity with lab instrumentation and CAD tools.

Qualifications

Actively enrolled in a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
Foundational knowledge of lab equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, basic soldering.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with the HW Design process (schematic, layout, documentation).

Responsibilities

Perform simulation activities, functional schematic reviews, PCB layout reviews, BOM generation, and documentation.
Conduct hardware debugging, electrical design verification against datasheet specifications, and documentation of results.
Review component specifications and research alternate sources to support qualification activities.
Analyze large-scale manufacturing yield data to identify engineering insights that can improve factory yield.
