Job summary

Ciena Corporation in Ottawa is seeking an R&D Optical Product Ramp Engineer to support ramp and sustaining activities for WaveLogic optical modems. You will perform lab debug, analyze manufacturing data, and drive corrective actions to improve yield and manufacturability.

You will work with hardware, optical, firmware, reliability, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and implement design or process changes for volume production.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis techniques such as histogram distributions, Q-Q plots, standard deviation, Cp/Cpk.
• Experience using scripting or programming tools such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis, automation, or engineering debug.
• Ability to work hands-on in a lab environment and interpret electrical, optical, manufacturing, or system-level test results.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with manufacturing test flows and yield analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support product ramp and sustaining activities with a focus on yield improvement through test, design, and process changes.
• Perform hardware and optical debug of failed modules to identify root causes and define corrective actions.
• Analyze large-scale manufacturing data to assess design, process, or test changes that improve factory yield.
• Plan, coordinate, validate, and release design/test/process changes to support ramp readiness and product quality.
• Collaborate with hardware, optical, firmware, test, reliability, manufacturing and suppliers to drive issues to closure.
• Summarize data analysis, debug findings, and recommendations for stakeholders.
