Job summary

Ciena is seeking a Senior Pluggable Modems Product Engineer in Ottawa to lead lifecycle activities for pluggable optical modules, including QSFP-DD and OSFP. You will influence product definition, manufacturing performance, cost optimization, and lifecycle management across coherent and direct-detect tech.

Qualifications

• Experience with optical transceivers and pluggable modules.
• Knowledge of coherent and direct-detect optical transmission.
• Familiar with industry standards (OIF, IEEE).
• Experience with form factors QSFP-DD/OSFP/CFP2/SFP-DD.
• Background in lasers, modulators, photodiodes, and DSPs.
• Ability to perform SPC and trend analysis on manufacturing data.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical definition and development of next-gen pluggable optical modules.
• Collaborate with R&D, NPI Test, Operations, and Supply Chain to define specs.
• Monitor offshore contract manufacturers and drive yield improvements.
• Perform statistical analysis for NPI and production data (Cpk).
• Recommend specs for automated test equipment with R&D.
• Drive product cost optimization via design-for-manufacturability and sourcing.
• Manage product lifecycle activities and documentation.
