Job summary

Ciena in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking an intermediate Hardware Engineer to support WaveLogic optical modems from design through manufacturing ramp. You will focus on yield improvement, test, and process changes to enhance quality and manufacturability.

You will work hands-on in the lab, perform hardware and optical debug, analyze large data sets, and collaborate with hardware, optical, firmware, reliability, manufacturing, and supplier teams to drive issues to closure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of hardware engineering, electrical engineering, optical hardware, telecommunications equipment, or related environment.
• Familiarity with product lifecycle stages from development to end-of-life.
• Demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis techniques (histogram distributions, Q‑Q plots, Cp, Cpk, etc.).
• Experience using Python or MATLAB for data analysis or engineering debug.
• Ability to work hands‑on in a lab and interpret test results.
• Strong communication skills to present findings to cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Hands‑on lab debug of failed modules to identify root cause and define corrective actions.
• Yield data analysis of large-scale manufacturing and test data to assess design or process changes and improve yield.
• Plan, coordinate, validate, and release design/test/process change orders for ramp/quality.
• Cross‑functional collaboration with hardware, optical, firmware, reliability, manufacturing, and supplier teams to close issues.
• Summarize data findings, validation results, and recommended actions for stakeholders.
