About The Role

To carry out water, wastewater and environmental sampling activities using data quality assurance/quality control protocols. To document and maintain the sampling data in formats to satisfy the Safe Water Drinking Act, and the Provincial Drinking Water Regulations and Standards.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Conduct the drinking water sampling surveillance program, according to the Provincial regulations.
  • Collect environmental samples using appropriate quality assurance/quality control protocols.
  • Maintain sampling equipment and supplies in order to conduct the sampling program.
  • Maintain the field and laboratory data in a form to satisfy the legal audit requirements of the Drinking Water Regulations and Drinking Water Quality Management Standard.
  • Conduct notifications required under the Drinking Water Regulations and Standards.
  • Prepare reports to satisfy legal reporting deadlines.
  • Conduct special drinking water monitoring programs as required.
  • Assist with environmental education and environmental projects and programs.
  • Assist in the implementation of special environment related projects as assigned.
  • Conduct Municipal Works and Environmental Services staff training with regard to aspects of drinking water distribution system monitoring.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.

About You: Qualifications:

  • Three (3) year College Diploma in environmental science or technology.
  • One (1) year of current experience directly related to drinking water monitoring programs.
  • Trainable as a Water Quality Analyst as defined under the Drinking Water Regulations and to take the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO)/Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Exam for the License to be a certified as a Water Quality Analyst.
  • Must be able to satisfy the License requirements of OWWCO/MECP requirements and receive the Water Quality Analyst License within three months of receiving the appropriate training.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with well-developed communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of a wide range of software programs and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • Well-developed customer service skills with a strong sense of public service and cooperation, and ability to effectively deal with the public.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements (i.e. field work) of the job.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s licence, Class “G”, with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
