Job summary

Fernie Chamber Of Commerce is seeking a dedicated Visitor Centre Counsellor for the remainder of 2026 in Fernie, BC. This full-time, fixed-term role focuses on delivering outstanding visitor experiences in person and online, with duties across inquiries, frontline hospitality, reporting, shipping coordination, retail, and Centre upkeep.

The ideal candidate has customer service experience, strong communication, knowledge of Fernie, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic tourism setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service, preferably in a tourism-related role.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
• Knowledge of Fernie and the surrounding area, including attractions, accommodations, and events.
• Self-motivated, energetic learner.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to general visitor inquiries from the public in person, on social media, by phone, and by email. Provide an exceptional level of service to all inquiries.
• Welcoming visitors at the Visitor Information Centre and serving on the front-line for tourism.
• Ensure stats are collected, compile reports, and submit monthly to Destination BC.
• Facilitate Purolator/Fed-Ex including: incoming, outgoing, shipping, handling and inquiries.
• Ensure the Visitor Centre is clean and well-maintained.
• Post Tourist Alerts and other emergency information notifications.
• Sell and restock retail merchandise.

Job description

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Visitor Centre Counsellor for the remainder of 2026. As a Counsellor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Fernie Visitor Centre ensuring exceptional visitor experience in person and online. This is a full-time, fixed-term employment position based in Fernie, British Columbia.

Job Responsibilities

• Respond to general visitor inquiries from the public in person, on social media, by phone, and by email. Provide an exceptional level of service to all inquiries.
• A willingness to serve tourism and tourists on the ‘front-line’ including welcoming visitors at the Visitor Information Centre.
• Ensure all stats are collected, compile reports, and are submitted monthly to Destination BC

Term

• Hourly wage: starting at $19/hr depending on qualifications
• This position reports to the Visitor Centre Coordinator
