Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose of the Job

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) maintenance technicians and subcontractors (as required/necessary) for the Preventive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, emergency field modifications and Warranty activities on the Eglinton LRT contract. Make timely and responsible decisions regarding operational and personnel matters including allocation of resources, customer service issues, performance appraisals, employee development, and corrective actions. Monitor and assign Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities while ensuring adherence to ethical and integrity responsibilities. Ensure Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) protocols/procedures are implemented and adhered to, promoting a conducive workplace environment free of harassment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct job briefings, end-of-shift briefings, Safety Meetings and activities, ensuring adherence to safety rules, procedures and policies.
  • Correct and document safety incidents and hazards; investigate for corrective actions involving Engineering and EHS Coordinator.
  • Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure all direct reports understand business objectives and their roles.
  • Maintain communication with management to ensure repair and train servicing meets customer expectations.
  • Support expenditure reduction initiatives.
  • Foster positive working relationships within the team.
  • Ensure timely capture of all relevant information in MAXIMO/GSI (SAP-based).
  • Audit and sign off on Work Orders (WOs), ensuring shift work is accounted for in MAXIMO/GSI.
  • Produce Shift Report at the end of each shift, capturing relevant issues, metrics, and KPI values.
  • Communicate with local/external Alstom counterparts at other transit systems.
  • Analyze and solve problems using knowledge and impartial judgment.
  • Apply Alstom directives/protocols and Human Resource input to resolve potential infractions.
  • Work directly with employees to establish self-managed work teams.
  • Provide guidance to employees to foster an empowered and engaged workforce.
  • Enforce EHS rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Promote a safe and harmonious work environment free of harassment and violence.
  • Ensure employee safety/job-essential training is performed to Alstom standards and remains current.
  • Conduct weekly Safety Observations, facility inspections, and audits to ensure compliance.

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge

  • 3+ years in a Supervisory role or job-related equivalency.
  • Supervisory experience in a maintenance, industrial/technical environment preferred.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex technical issues using project management techniques.
  • Excellent understanding of warranty repairs, maintenance, parts management, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated past success in leadership and management of physical assets.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide consistent feedback to direct reports.
  • Knowledgeable on Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) workplace regulations.
  • Proficient in computer applications; experience with vehicle maintenance programs is an asset.
  • Technical experience in vehicle warranty maintenance, corrective and preventative maintenance, modifications, and commissioning/testing activities is recommended.
  • Knowledgeable in MAXIMO/GSI system and modification process, coupled with supply chain management experience.
