Job summary

Neil M. Ross Catholic School is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students with mild to severe needs. The role focuses on a range of areas including communication, learning, social-emotional needs, and physical support within a Christ-centered education environment.

The position is part-time (16.25 hours per week) at Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, with responsibilities starting as soon as possible. A relevant Education Assistant program and experience with IPPs are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have taken Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Experience supporting students with mild to severe needs, including communication and learning.
• Experience with Positive Behavioral Supports and social-emotional learning is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with mild to severe needs in areas such as intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing and/or vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical.
• Support implementation of student Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
• Work with a strong interdisciplinary team to create a supportive learning environment.

Educational Assistant

Position:

An Educational Assistant is requiredto assist students with mild to severe needs in any or a combination of the following areas: intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing and/or vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical.

Qualifications & Duties:

• Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division's goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset.
• Experience with assisting with the implementation of student Individual Program Plans.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work well with a strong, interdisciplinary team.
• Display a positive approach to students with social-emotional-behavioral needs.

• Experience implementing positive, proactive behavioural interventions including competence using specific strategies such as visual supports, sensory supports, reinforcement schedules, teaching problem-solving skills, social stories, etc. and has experience with Positive Behavioral Supports.
• Support the use of Google Apps for Education as well assistive technology devices for communication.
• Experience modeling and teaching students social skills, and emotional regulation.
• Ability to lift and toilet students as required.
• First Aid and CPR training would be an asset.
• Ability to be involved in a wide variety of activities that require some level of physical activity.
• Knowledge and experience working with diverse learners who are on the autism spectrum is preferred.
