Job summary

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools in St. Albert, AB, seeks a French Immersion Educational Assistant to support students with mild to severe needs in a Christ-centered learning community. Full-time position (32.5 hours/week) begins as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will be fluent in French and English, collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team, and help implement student supports and individualized plans. NVCI and First Aid/CPR are assets; training opportunities offered.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Fluent communication in French and English, both oral and written.
• Experience with implementing student Individual Program Plans.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is an asset.
• Experience supporting diverse learners, including autism spectrum.
• Ability to lift and toilet students as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with mild to severe needs in intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing/vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical areas.
• Support the development and implementation of student Individual Program Plans.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

Position: An Educational Assistant is requiredto assist students with mild to severe needs in any or a combination of the following areas: intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing and/or vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical.

Qualifications & Duties:

• Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division's goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in both French and English.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset.
• Experience with assisting with the implementation of student Individual Program Plans.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work well with a strong, interdisciplinary team.
• Display a positive approach to students with social-emotional-behavioral needs.

• Experience implementing positive, proactive behavioural interventions including competence using specific strategies such as visual supports, sensory supports, reinforcement schedules, teaching problem-solving skills, social stories, etc. and has experience with Positive Behavioral Supports.
• Support the use of Google Apps for Education as well assistive technology devices for communication.
• Experience modeling and teaching students social skills, and emotional regulation.
• Willingness to lift and toilet students as required.
• First Aid and CPR training would be an asset.
• Ability to be involved in a wide variety of activities that require some level of physical activity.
• Knowledge and experience working with diverse learners who are on the autism spectrum is preferred.
