Job summary

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant for the Richard S. Fowler Catholic Jr. High School. Position is temporary part-time (16.25 hours/week) in the mornings, with duties to commence as soon as possible and run until June 29, 2027.

Successful candidates will support students with a range of needs, participate in a collaborative, Christ-centered learning community, and bring experience with inclusive education practices and assistive technologies.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is an asset.
• Experience with implementing student Individual Program Plans.
• Experience using Google Apps for Education and assistive tech for communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with mild to severe needs in intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing/vision, communication and language, and physical/medical domains.
• Support implementation of student Individual Program Plans and behavioral supports.
• Model and teach social skills and emotional regulation, using visual/sensory supports and reinforcement schedules.
• Assist with lifting and toileting students as required; ensure safety and well-being.

Position:

An Educational Assistant is required to assist students with mild to severe needs in any or a combination of the following areas: intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing and/or vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical.

Duties to Commence:

Qualifications & Duties:

• Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division's goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset.
• Experience with assisting with the implementation of student Individual Program Plans.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work well with a strong, interdisciplinary team.
• Display a positive approach to students with social-emotional-behavioral needs.
• Experience implementing positive, proactive behavioural interventions including competence using specific strategies such as visual supports, sensory supports, reinforcement schedules, teaching problem-solving skills, social stories, etc. and has experience with Positive Behavioral Supports.
• Support the use of Google Apps for Education as well assistive technology devices for communication.
• Experience modeling and teaching students social skills, and emotional regulation.
• Ability to lift and toilet students as required.
• First Aid and CPR training would be an asset.
• Ability to be involved in a wide variety of activities that require some level of physical activity.
• Knowledge and experience working with diverse learners who are on the autism spectrum is preferred.
