Job summary

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools seeks a French Immersion Educational Assistant to support students with diverse needs. The role is part-time, mornings, 16.25 hours weekly, at École Ste. Marguerite d'Youville in St. Albert.

The successful candidate will fluently communicate in French and English, assist with IPPs, and work with a collaborative, Christ-centered education team. First Aid/CPR is a valued asset.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in both French and English.
• Experience with implementing student Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with mild to severe needs across multiple areas (cognitive, emotional/behavioural, learning, communication).
• Support students using visual and sensory supports and positive behavioural strategies.
• Assist with Google Apps for Education and assistive communication devices.
• Contribute to a Christ-centered, inclusive learning environment.

French Immersion Educational Assistant

Position: An Educational Assistant is required to assist students with mild to severe needs in any or a combination of the following areas: intellectual, emotional/behavioural, learning, hearing and/or vision, communication and language, and physical and/or medical.

Qualifications & Duties:

• Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division's goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
• Completion of the Education Assistant Program at MacEwan University or equivalent post-secondary training.
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in both French and English.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset.
• Experience with assisting with the implementation of student Individual Program Plans.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work well with a strong, interdisciplinary team.
• Display a positive approach to students with social-emotional-behavioral needs.
• Experience implementing positive, proactive behavioural interventions including competence using specific strategies such as visual supports, sensory supports, reinforcement schedules, teaching problem-solving skills, social stories, etc. and has experience with Positive Behavioral Supports.
• Support the use of Google Apps for Education as well assistive technology devices for communication.
• Experience modeling and teaching students social skills, and emotional regulation.
• Willingness to lift and toilet students as required.
• First Aid and CPR training would be an asset.
• Ability to be involved in a wide variety of activities that require some level of physical activity.
• Knowledge and experience working with diverse learners who are on the autism spectrum is preferred.
