Job summary

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division in Lethbridge is seeking a part-time Education Assistant to support students with diverse needs at CARE Campus. The role runs 28.0 hours per week and begins October 5, 2026, under CUPE 1825.

The Education Assistant works under supervision of Inclusive Education Lead, classroom teacher and principal, with emphasis on confidentiality and collaborative teamwork. Prior experience with special needs is valued; ASL is an asset and Brain Story certification is

EDUCATION ASSISTANT – CARE Campus

This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page.

We are looking to hire a continuous 28.0 hour per week Education Assistant at the Centre for Adolescent Responsibility Education (CARE) Campus in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence October 5, 2026. This position is covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement. Please quote Posting #4069039.

The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal. CARE is a grades 7-9 Outreach program that focuses on meeting the needs of students who have been identified as being at risk, as well as youth with challenging behaviours and/or complex social/emotional needs.

The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role in order to actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in achieving the common good for all students. Through collaborative team-based structure, the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both the daily and program supervisors.

EDUCATION

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent;
• Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness https://www.albertafamilywellness.org/training.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS

• First Aid training;
• Knowing ASL is considered an asset;
• Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate;
• Training and experience with augmentative communication systems;
• Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

• Understands that it is of paramount importance to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the school community;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Willing to participate in new learning opportunities;
• Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs;
• Ability to contribute in a collaborative team-based learning structure.
