Job summary

HUB International in Canada is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to support underwriters in day‑to‑day tasks and ensure accuracy of insurance policy documents. This hybrid role requires 3 days in the office.

Candidates should have 1–2 years of experience in customer service, administration, or insurance, and be willing to obtain a broker license (Level 1) within the first year. CIP/CAIB or course pursuit is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service, administration, or insurance.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a broker license (Level 1) within the first year of employment.
  • Open to pursuing an insurance designation (CIP or CAIB preferred).
  • Willingness to take insurance courses for growth and industry knowledge.
  • Familiarity with basic legal structures in Canada.
  • Excellent typing proficiency and strong communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Technical competency with office equipment (printers/scanners).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with underwriters and brokers to ensure smooth communication.
  • Process and issue documents with high accuracy under guidance of underwriters and managers.
  • Meet service standards and turnaround times for document issuance.
  • Document observations during pre-reviews to assist underwriters.
  • Complete renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority.
  • Support underwriting with bind confirmations and preparing Certificates of Insurance.
  • Coordinate with underwriting to resolve escalated issues.
  • Assist managers and teammates with general administrative tasks.
  • Maintain and improve administrative workflows for efficiency.
  • Communicate with internal departments via email, Teams, and phone.

Job Overview

We are currently looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our growing team. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support our underwriters in their day-to-day tasks. Working as part of a team, you are responsible for the efficiency and accuracy of insurance policy documents.

This is hybrid position with the standard of 3 days in our offices.

Responsibilities

This position will:

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with underwriters and brokers through verbal and written communication
  • Process and issue documents as instructed by underwriters and managers with a high degree of accuracy
  • Meet service standards and turnaround times with respect to issuance of documents
  • Document observations made during pre-reviews of files to assist underwriters
  • Complete renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority
  • Perform underwriting support functions including bind confirmations and preparing Certificates of Insurance
  • Amend or update quotes based on instructions of underwriters
  • Coordinate with underwriting areas to research and resolve escalated underwriting issues
  • Support managers, underwriters, and coworkers with general administrative tasks
  • Maintain and innovate administrative workflow procedures to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Communicate internally with other departments via email, Microsoft Teams, and telephone
  • Communicate externally with brokers as required
  • Build and maintain electronic, and any applicable hard copy, records following established guidelines and processes
Qualifications

You're a good fit if you have:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience with transferable skills in customer service, administration, or insurance
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a broker license (Level 1) within the first year of employment
  • Open to or currently pursuing an insurance designation (CIP or CAIB preferred)
  • Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge
  • Familiarity with basic legal structures in Canada
  • Excellent typing proficiency and strong communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Technical competency with office equipment including printers and scanners

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is from $ 40,000 - $43,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.
