Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional for the role of Thermal Operating Technician at our Lennox facility in Bath, Ontario.

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Engineer and the Thermal Operating Supervisor/Shift Engineer, the Thermal Operating Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and reporting activities related to high-pressure boilers and turbo-alternator units to ensure compliance with station procedures and regulations. This role primarily involves rotating shifts.

The Thermal Operating Technician may also perform functions as an Assistant Shift Engineer as defined by Operating Engineers Regulation when required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operate and monitor equipment and systems to ensure safe and reliable plant operation, including process systems, feed water, fuel, chemicals, emission controls, and auxiliary equipment. Recognize issues, troubleshoot, and take corrective actions.
2. Perform work protection code activities and act as controlling/issuing authority for equipment when needed.
3. Participate in the Emergency Response Team, including wearing protective gear and undergoing relevant training.
4. Conduct measurements and tests on equipment and systems following recognized standards.
5. Plan and execute all phases of unit start-ups, including pre-start checks.
6. Manage actions during system emergencies, ensuring proper coordination during start-ups.
7. Inspect and maintain emergency equipment to ensure readiness.
8. Prepare reports and documentation for audits, and perform minor maintenance using light tools, adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

1. Valid 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certificate in Ontario.
2. Proficiency with office software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
3. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
4. Ability to work in a team and across organizational levels.
5. Availability to work shifts or days as required.
6. Candidates with a 2nd Class OE Certificate are highly desirable.
