Job description
Overview

The Centre for Bioethics and the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences invite applications for two tenure‑stream positions in Bioethics.

Memorial University is situated on the traditional territories of diverse Indigenous groups of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and acknowledges and respects the diverse history and cultures of these groups.

These appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor though consideration may be given to hiring at the rank of Associate Professor. The appointments are anticipated to commence in September 2026 (VPA # F01033-2024-113 / VPA # F02882-2024-114).

Responsibilities
  • Graduate teaching
  • Maintaining a program of research
  • Providing clinical ethics support to the province’s health authority
  • Participating in academic service activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Design and delivery of the core bioethics and health law content of the undergraduate medical program
  • Bioethics teaching in postgraduate medical residency programs across a range of clinical disciplines
  • Supervision of learners in the Division’s graduate programs (master’s and doctoral levels) as needed
Qualifications
  • PhD in philosophy, bioethics, or any other discipline with evidence of scholarship relevant to bioethics
