Job summary

ASK Wellness Society in Merritt, BC, is seeking a Tenant Support Worker to provide life skills services to participants facing mental health, substance use, and chronic health challenges. You will help participants identify goals and develop skills to live as independently as possible in a client-centered, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency support.
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources.
  • Understands and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver's license with suitable transportation for business use.
  • Must pass a vulnerable sector police record check.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 required.
  • Ready to complete in-house online training within the first month.
  • Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and support Program Participants to live as fully and independently as possible.
  • Participate in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning for Program Participants when requested.
  • Provide supervision and support to mitigate risk to ensure safety, comfort, and wellness.
  • Work closely with identified community resources for each Program Participant.
  • Actively seek the views of Program Participants and involve them in decision-making to improve their identity, purpose, and self-esteem.
  • Complete wellness checks/room checks when required.
  • Assist with meal planning, meal preparation, and meal education with Program Participants.
  • Arrange weekly drop-offs from the local Food Bank when required.
  • Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around the property.
  • Provide crisis intervention as required including overdose responses by ensuring immediate access to medical services and completing necessary incident reports when required.

Job description

City: Merritt
Program and Site Location: Supportive Housing, Juniper
Reports To: Coordinator of Supportive Housing, Juniper
Term: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday: 12:00am to 8:00am with a 1/2 hour unpaid meal break
Wage Range: $27.53 to $31.57 commensurate with education and related experience.

PositionSummary:

As a TenantSupport Worker, you will provide life skills services to Program Participantswho may struggle with mental health concerns, substance misuse challenges, andchronic health conditions. Within this role, you will support ProgramParticipants to identify individual goals and develop thelife skillsnecessary to live as independently as possible. Service delivery is based on aclient-centered, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental perspective. Please note this is a pet-friendly workplace.

Typical DutiesInclude:

AdministrativeResponsibilities
  • Conductassessments of potential Program Participants using the BC Housing-mandatedVulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT).
  • Completeaccurate and up-to-date communication/case notes.
  • Maintainfiles and statistics as per accreditation standards.
  • Completemove-in/move-out documentation as required by the Property Services Department.
  • Whenrequested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement(PQI) team.
  • Ensurecompliance with all Society policies and procedures.
  • Otherduties which may or may not be outlined within this job description.
Qualificationsand Requirements
  • Bachelorof Social Work, Human Services Diploma, Support Worker/Care Aid Certificate, oran equivalent combination of education, training, and/or lived experience.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficultbehaviors.
  • Goodcommunication, documentation, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to workwithin a team-based environment involving multi-agency support.
  • Strong workingknowledge of community resources.
  • Understands andmaintains professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver’slicense, safe driving record, and reliable/appropriate transportation withbusiness use coverage.
  • Must pass an acceptablecriminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Occupational FirstAid Level 1 required.
  • Readiness tocomplete in-house online training within the first month of employment.
  • Mental HealthFirst Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
