Job summary

The ASK Wellness Society in Kamloops is seeking a Pathways Shelter Cleaner to support the Pathways Shelter program. You will help maintain a clean, safe environment for clients, with duties spanning dusting, disinfection, waste management, and basic upkeep of the facility.

Collaborate with the Property Services team in a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, while following WorkSafe guidelines and Society policies. Training is provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Strong time management in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a case-management style environment.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications (WHMIS, First Aid).
  • Experience with mental health/addiction and homelessness is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Dust furniture, equipment, walls, and surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
  • Disinfect sinks, countertops, floors, toilets, and restrooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the building and handle biohazard cleanup if needed.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors; manage waste disposal.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, mirrors, and surfaces; ensure proper storage of products.
  • Report repairs and replacements; support overdose response when required.

Program and Site Location:24-Hour Shelter Services
Reports To: Coordinator of Pathways Shelter
Term:Temporary Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Schedule:Sunday - Thursday 8:00am 4:00pm with 1/2 unpaid meal break
Wage Range:$23.73 up to $27.19 based on education and related experience.

upon eligibility

Position Summary:

As the Pathways Shelter Cleaner, you will work collaboratively with the Property Services department to maintain cleanliness at the shelter. This may or may not include windows and doors, wiping down and disinfecting all surfaces and desks, handles, filing cabinets, table-tops, cupboards, countertops, mirrors, furniture, walls and baseboards, removal of trash, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning of ovens, fridges, and bathrooms. Service delivery is based on a client-centered, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental perspective.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Dust furniture, equipment, partitions, walls, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, floors, toilets, tables, chairs, refrigerators, microwaves, etc. in restrooms, and client rooms.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of building (may include biohazard clean up).
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and/or hand scrub floors using brooms, mops, and vacuum cleaners.
  • Empty trash cans and recyclables into disposal areas.
  • Wipe down walls using wall mop, doors, wall hangings, baseboards, etc.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Maintaining and upkeep of all cleaning equipment, supplies, and products.
  • Ensuring safe and sanitary storage and care of products.
  • Keeping all spaces tidy.
  • Reporting repairs and replacements when encountered on the job.
  • When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with on-the-spot overdose response and support and be prepared to work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and police in crisis situations.
  • Ensure compliance with all WorkSafe/Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines supportive standards, Society policies, and procedures.
  • Complete accurate and up-to-date communication/case notes.
  • Maintain files and statistics as per accreditation standards.
  • When requested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team.
  • Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.
  • Other duties which may or may not be outlined within this job description.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Prior cleaning/housekeeping experience is an asset.
  • Must be willing to work in spaces with bed bugs/hoarding/harm reduction present positively and confidently (training can be provided).
  • Must have good time management skills within a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment.
  • Experience with mental health/addiction and homelessness issues is an asset.
  • Physical demands include walking and standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling objects, lifting and moving objects, repetitive bending and lifting/arm movements.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a case management setting involving multi-agency support.
  • Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries.
  • Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Must pass criminal record checks for the vulnerable sector and reference screening.
  • WHMIS certification is required.
  • First Aid is required
  • Must have access to a vehicle in good working condition and possess a valid driver’s license with relevant insurance.
  • In-house Violence Prevention, Cultural Awareness Training, and 2sLGBTQ+ Training provided.
  • As clients are allowed to have pets, it is noted that this is a pet-friendly environment.
