Job description
Overview

Position: Technician - Medical Device Reprocessing

Primary Purpose: To provide support, delivery, and care for the sterile processing of instruments and laundry.

Nature of Work

This position provides services required of a hospital MDR unit and maintains a high quality of sterility and inventory control. Normal hospital central service environment with high noise levels, some unpleasant odors, dress code, traffic pattern restrictions and above-average temperatures due to equipment output. The position is in a complex environment with a wide range of time commitments and a highly fluctuating workload with frequent deadlines. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labour (lifting/carrying of fluid gallons, instrument trays and wet laundry). May involve rotating shifts with some weekend hours.

Typical Duties / Accountabilities

Reporting to the Team Lead, Medical Device Reprocessing, this position works as an integral member of the team to provide high-quality sterile equipment and supplies for the Veterinary Medical Centre surgical service within standards as set out by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association Canada, ORNAC and AORN.

This position is also responsible for preparing sterile intravenous fluids, ensuring proper maintenance and handling of instrumentation, maintaining accurate written and computerized records, preparing and sterilizing surgery linen packs, sorting, washing, and folding of hospital linens; filling requests for supplies for VMC departments; and assisting with the instruction and evaluation of Veterinary Technology Program students.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of Grade 12 and a successful graduate of a Medical Device Reprocessing program from an accredited school in Canada.

Experience: Two years of direct experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital supply and distribution department.

  • Status: Term 12 months with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent

  • Shift: Shifts will be Monday – Friday, between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm, with one week out of the month, Tuesday-Saturday. Hours subject to change.

  • Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $23.35 - 30.61 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
