PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Team Lead Property Accounting is accountable to ensure the sustainment of policies, procedures and processes of accounting and reporting activities for Property/Capital Accounting, driving for continuous improvement.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leads the management of CPKC property/capital accounting and reporting, and improvement initiatives
Proactively seeks to drive new efficiencies and improvements of property/capital accounting team deliverables through identifying risks and opportunities and designing and implementing strategies to close gaps
Works with team members and other stakeholders to build and execute on detailed plans to drive efficiencies in accounting and reporting processes
Manages and reviews team deliverables including reconciliations, financial statement disclosures, and monthly and quarterly analysis
Manages and maintains compliance with Property and Asset related US GAAP accounting standards
Support the preparation, development and implementation of annual group depreciation studies for Canadian, US and Mexico operations, including integration of processes, deliverables and timelines
Supports the integration of property/capital accounting and reporting systems (SAP ECC and S4)
Supports the impact of improvement initiatives on property accounting deliverables for Regulatory Reporting (CTA/STB) and Tax Reporting
Maintains effective relationships with multiple internal stakeholders who support the accounting and reporting process (Project Accounting, Tax, Regulatory Reporting, Information Systems, Operations, Corporate Reporting, etc.)
Provide accounting support and recommendations for significant Property transactions
Ensure accounting and reporting processes comply with applicable Internal Control (SOX) requirements
Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers
Creates an environment that provides opportunities for development of team members
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Accounting Designation required (CPA)
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required including 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership position
Previous Fixed Assets exposure
Knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements applicable to public companies
Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
