Job summary

BayCare seeks a Surgical Technologist First Assistant (CSTFA) to join our clinical team in a PRN role. You will support surgeons during procedures, assist with positioning, prepping, and draping, and ensure instruments and sterile technique are prepared for optimal outcomes.

Requirements include 3+ years as a Surgical Tech, 1 year as First Assistant, a High School diploma, Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate, CSFA and BLS certification. On-call evenings/night shifts apply.

Qualifications

• Requires at least 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech and 1 year as a Surgical First Assistant.
• High School or Equivalent; Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate.
• BLS certification and CSFA certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon during procedures and communicate preferences to the team.
• Position, prep, and drape patients; retract tissues for visibility.
• Select equipment, control bleeding, and assist with incisions and closures.
• Ensure sterility and comply with regulatory standards.

Description

Position Description:Surgical Technologist First Assistant

• Responsible for assisting the surgeon during surgery and plays a vital role in the operating room during surgeries. Communicates the surgeon’s preferences and specific patient needs to surgical team. Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Provides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization with regard to the surgical site. Assists with selecting equipment, holding incisions open, controlling bleeding, closing incisions and performing other technical duties.

Status: PRN, Exempt: No

Shift Hours: mostly evening & overnight call cov

On Call: Yes

Requirements:

• Required Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech and 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Required Education: High School or Equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate
• Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross and Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) Certification.
