Job summary

BayCare Health System in Newfoundland and Labrador seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist First Assistant to support the surgeon during operations and communicate patient needs to the team.

You will assist with positioning, prepping, draping, tissue retraction, equipment selection, bleeding control and wound closure, working closely with the surgical staff. Requirements include 3 years as a Surgical Tech, 1 year as a First Assistant, HS diploma, CSFA and BLS certifications.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years' experience as a Surgical Tech and 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Required Education: High School or Equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate
• Required License/Certification: BLS Certification and CSFA Certification

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeon during surgery and communicates preferences to the surgical team.
• Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
• Provides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization of the surgical site.
• Assists with selecting equipment, holding incisions open, controlling bleeding, closing incisions and performing other technical duties.

Position Description: Surgical Technologist First Assistant

• Responsible for assisting the surgeon during surgery and plays a vital role in the operating room during surgeries. Communicates the surgeon's preferences and specific patient needs to surgical team. Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Provides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization with regard to the surgical site. Assists with selecting equipment, holding incisions open, controlling bleeding, closing incisions and performing other technical duties.

Location: St Josephs Womens

Status: Full Time, Exempt: No

Shift Hours: 6:45pm - 7:15am

Weekend Work: Every Other

On Call: No

Requirements

• Required Experience: At least 3 years' experience as a Surgical Tech and 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Required Education: High School or Equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate
• Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross and Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) Certification.
