About the Position:
Supervises and coordinates day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds and facilities systems. Oversee staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining systems, including mechanical, electrical, controls, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades.
Provide a safe and positive work environment, and ensure each employee is fully trained.
As a member of the Haakon team, the maintenance supervisor must conduct business according to the details of the job description and the employee manual, with a commitment to continuous improvement and respect for people.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage all facility and equipment maintenance and repairs
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance program, and ensure that it is adhered to and completed as scheduled
- Determine priorities, set tasks, and direct workflow for maintenance and facilities personnel
- Oversee equipment replacement and upgrades
- Manage facility safety and security activities: fire control, alarm systems, building access, etc.
- Plan, manage and oversee plant shutdowns
- Manage distribution and tracking of hand tools
- Direct and supervise contractors, ensuring safety compliance, and ensuring contractual requirements are met
- Ensure equipment installations meet all applicable provincial and federal standards
- Maintain the physical plant in compliance with applicable building, health and safety, fire, electrical, and environmental codes and regulations
- Manage department staffing and employee schedules
- Ensure work is performed accurately, safely, and in compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Evaluate and plan technical skills training for direct reports
- Mentor employees and facilitate employee development
- Communicate job expectations; coach, counsel, appraise job results, discipline employees, and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.
- Mediate, investigate, and resolve employee issues and grievances with guidance and help from the HR department
- Implement and maintain vision, strategy, and objectives

Position Requirements:
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the facilities management service.
- Experience in facilities management, maintenance and custodial techniques.
- Strong ability to multitask and plan work.
- Anticipate needs without instruction.
- Decipher and act on ambiguous instructions.
- Strong written and oral skills, and be able to communicate when required, using technical terms.
- Knowledge of Windows operating system and/or ability to learn.
- Ability to learn new and unfamiliar software.
- Comprehensive understanding and interpretation of blueprints and schematics.
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, ethics and leadership skills within a team environment.
- Work at a high pace while maintaining a high level of detail and organization.
- Pivot tasks when downtime occurs.
- Driver of change management and process improvement with visible and measurable results.
- High aptitude for solving problems with limited information.
- In-depth understanding of machinery in order to assess and troubleshoot repairs, and evaluate lifespans of equipment.
Education and Work Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience leading a maintenance and/or facilities team, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- At least 3 years of manufacturing experience
- Post-secondary education in mechanical, or manufacturing fields
- Formal leadership training is an asset
