Coast Mountain College invites applications for a full-time continuing Payroll Specialist at the Terrace campus. The role supports HR and Payroll, ensuring end-to-end payroll processing, accuracy of deductions, and timely reporting in a collaborative environment.

Applicants should have a two-year diploma (Bachelor’s preferred) in accounting or related field, familiarity with Colleague, and experience in a unionized setting. PCP preferred; confidentiality and strong problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Two-year diploma in Accounting, Business or related discipline; combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) preferred.
• Knowledge of full cycle payroll processes, including year-end processes.
• Knowledge of regulations affecting payroll, tax rules and compliance.
• One year of experience processing a full cycle of payroll; 3 years preferred.
• Experience in a unionized environment and interpreting collective agreements preferred.
• Experience using a complex payroll system such as Colleague.
• Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, be self-directed, and work independently.
• Tact, integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Intermediate skills in Word, Excel and Outlook; information management system.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and proactive problem-solving abilities.
• Collaborative team player in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end payroll in compliance with legislation, policies and collective agreements.
• Calculate payroll deductions (income tax, pension, benefits).
• Process timesheets and seniority lists with accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain employee records in the HR Information System (Colleague).
• Partner with HR, Finance and other teams to ensure transparency of practices.
• Prepare payroll documents and reports (pension, ROEs, etc.).
• Provide responsive, clear communication and advice to employees and managers.
• Investigate discrepancies in documents such as timesheets.
• Identify opportunities to update processes for continuous improvement.
• Support audits, reporting and year-end activities.
