Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. in Calgary is seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst to join the Controllers team supporting the ST&O group.

You will provide accounting expertise to Environmental Commodities, helping manage renewable fuel obligations and GHG reporting, while aligning with finance and sustainability objectives. The role partners with Finance, Trading, Operations and Compliance to drive process improvements, prepare journal entries, perform month-end analyses, and deliver reliable financial

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Business and 7+ years of related experience in energy/commodities/trading.
• CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA designation with solid accounting knowledge.
• Proficiency in Power BI, Excel and other MS Office programs.
• Experience with SAP S4, SAP Fiori; Triple Point (TPT) is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and continuous improvement mindset; able to translate complex data into insights.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key finance partner for Environmental Commodities within ST&O; provide insights on performance metrics and value drivers.
• Develop expertise in provincial and federal emission programs and related accounting implications.
• Support month-end closing activities: journal entries, analyses, reconciliations, 3rd party/intercompany/balance sheet reporting.
• Collaborate with Accounting Policy to ensure proper accounting treatment for evolving activities.
• Work with Finance, Trading, Operations and Compliance to drive process improvements and better financial analysis.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with 7+ years of related experience, preferably within the energy, commodities, or trading sectors.
• A financial designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) with a solid understanding of financial and accounting principles
• Proficiency in Power BI, Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
• Working knowledge of SAP S4, SAP Fiori, with Triple Point (TPT) knowledge being an asset
• Proven analytical skills and a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to communicate complex information into meaningful insights
• Self-motivated and able to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key finance partner for Environmental Commodities team in ST&O: understand key business value drivers and performance metrics, and providing insights that support business decisions
• Develop expertise in provincial and federal emission programs and their associated accounting and financial reporting implications
• Support the team with executing the Emission Accounting month end cycle, including preparing journal entries, month end analysis and reconciliations, reporting on 3rd Party, intercompany, and balance sheet and expense positions
• Collaborate closely with the Accounting Policy team to ensure appropriate accounting treatment is applied for evolving business activities
• Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Trading, Operations, and Compliance to identify and implement process improvements, enhance controls, system improvements, and financial analysis and business insights

Location and other Key Details

You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6th Ave S.W.

Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
