Job summary

Suncor is seeking a strategic Contracts Advisor to lead material and/or service contracting from sourcing to contract formation at our Calgary office. You will negotiate terms, manage supplier relationships, and drive measurable cost, risk, and efficiency improvements for the business.

The role emphasizes data‑driven decision making, strong analytical skills, and collaboration across functional teams to deliver competitive commercial outcomes in a fast‑paced energy environment.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of related professional experience and/or a combination of commercial and technical work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Supply Chain
  • Proven track record in cost optimization, cost modeling, and total cost‑of‑ownership analysis
  • Strong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills with multi‑year contracts
  • Deep understanding of cost drivers, contracting models, and risk management in complex service markets
  • Skilled in using SAP, Ariba, and spend analytics tools to support sourcing, contract lifecycle management and cost optimization initiatives
  • Strong financial, business acumen, and commercial capabilities, and ability to lead others to craft effective business solutions
  • Ability to summarize complex commercial decisions for leadership approvals
  • Experience supporting Indigenous partnership commitments, local content considerations, or supplier development initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through market analysis, supplier collaboration, and demand management.
  • Apply data‑driven insights to challenge specifications, delivery models, and commercial structures.
  • Lead sourcing‑to‑contract events ensuring favorable cost, performance and risk outcomes.
  • Design innovative commercial models and negotiation strategies for competitive advantage.
  • Manage supplier performance focusing on cost control, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee project contract planning, strategy development, sourcing and negotiation through to contract formation and claims management.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into effective sourcing plans.

As a subject matter expert, you will negotiate and manage the lifecycle of contracts and build strong relationships with the business and suppliers to deliver measurable cost, risk, and efficiency improvements.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 5-10years of related professional experience and/or a combination of commercial and technical work experience(experience in one or more of the following is preferred):
    • Transportation and Logistics including Transportation Management (Freight), Warehouse and Field Logistics,
    • Large scale mining services with a strong understanding of field execution realities, including productivity, equipment utilization, labour availability, schedule impacts, site constraints and local content

  • ABachelor’sdegree, preferably in Business or Supply Chain
  • Proven track record incost optimization, cost modeling, and total cost‑of‑ownership analysis

  • Ability to summarize complex commercial decisions for leadership approvals
  • Experience supporting Indigenous partnership commitments, local content considerations, or supplier development initiatives
Responsibilities:
  • Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through market analysis, supplier collaboration,demand management and monitoringofcategory spend
  • Apply data‑driven insights to challenge specifications, service delivery models, and commercial structures to achieve sustainable cost savings
  • Lead sourcing‑to‑contract events, ensuring commercial outcomes balance cost efficiency, performance, and risk mitigation
  • Design innovative commercial models and negotiation strategies that drive competitive advantage and cost improvement
  • Manage supplier performance with emphasis on cost control, productivity, and continuous improvement and identify innovation and efficiency opportunities
  • Manage project contract planning, contract strategy development, sourcing and negotiation activities through to contract formation and approval and claims / warranty management activities
  • Partner with diverse internal stakeholders to define business requirements and translate them into sourcing strategies that maximize cost efficiency and align with business priorities
Location and other Key details:
  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
