Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. in Calgary is seeking a Contracts Advisor to manage material and service contracting within our Supply Chain organization.

The role focuses on negotiating contracts, lifecycle management, and delivering cost, risk, and efficiency improvements with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Office-based role with a 40-hour work week at our Calgary head office, with potential extended hours based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain.
• 5–10 years in commercial/technical roles, with contract lifecycle experience.
• Strong negotiation and analytical skills for service-based contracts.
• Experience with SAP/Ariba and cost-optimization initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Identify cost-reduction opportunities through market analysis and supplier collaboration.
• Apply data-driven insights to challenge specs, service delivery models, and commercial structures to achieve sustainable cost savings.
• Lead sourcing-to-contract events to balance cost, performance, and risk.

As a subject matter expert, you will negotiate and manage the lifecycle of contracts and build strong relationships with the business and suppliers to deliver measurable cost, risk, and efficiency improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

• 5-10 years of related professional experience and/or a combination of commercial and technical work experience (experience in one or more of the following is preferred): Transportation and Logistics including Transportation Management (Freight), Warehouse and Field Logistics, Large scale mining services with a strong understanding of field execution realities, including productivity, equipment utilization, labour availability, schedule impacts, site constraints and local content Equipment and Materials
• A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Supply Chain
• Proven track record in cost optimization, cost modeling, and total cost‑of‑ownership analysis
• Strong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills with multi‑year, service‑based contracts
• Deep understanding of cost drivers, contracting models, and risk management in complex service markets
• Skilled in using SAP, Ariba, and spend analytics tools to support sourcing, contract lifecycle management and cost optimization initiatives
• Strong financial, business acumen, and commercial capabilities, and ability to lead others in connecting ideas, events and circumstances to identify effective business solutions in a complex environment
• Ability to summarize complex commercial decisions for leadership approvals
• Experience supporting Indigenous partnership commitments, local content considerations, or supplier development initiatives

Responsibilities:

• Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through market analysis, supplier collaboration, demand management and monitoring of category spend
• Apply data‑driven insights to challenge specifications, service delivery models, and commercial structures to achieve sustainable cost savings
• Lead sourcing‑to‑contract events, ensuring commercial outcomes balance cost efficiency, performance, and risk mitigation
• Design innovative commercial models and negotiation strategies that drive competitive advantage and cost improvement
• Manage supplier performance with emphasis on cost control, productivity, and continuous improvement and identify innovation and efficiency opportunities
• Manage project contract planning, contract strategy development, sourcing and negotiation activities through to contract formation and approval and claims / warranty management activities
• Partner with diverse internal stakeholders to define business requirements and translate them into sourcing strategies that maximize cost efficiency and align with business priorities

Location and other Key details:

This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs. Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
