Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. seeks a Senior Accounting Analyst to join the Controllers team within the ST&O group in Calgary. You will provide accounting expertise for Environmental Commodities and support energy trading-related financial reporting and controls.

Responsibilities include month-end close, journal entries, and analysis; collaborating with Accounting Policy and cross-functional partners to optimize processes and ensure compliance with emission programs and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field; 7+ years in energy, commodities, or trading.
• CPA/ CMA/ CGA/ CA designation with strong financial and accounting knowledge.
• Proficiency in Power BI, Excel; working knowledge of SAP S4, SAP Fiori; Triple Point knowledge is a plus.
• Strong communication and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key finance partner for Environmental Commodities in ST&O; provide insights that support business decisions.
• Develop expertise in provincial and federal emission programs and their accounting/reporting implications.
• Support Emission Accounting month-end cycle: journal entries, analysis, reconciliations, reporting.
• Collaborate with Accounting Policy to ensure appropriate accounting treatment for evolving activities.
• Partner with Finance, Trading, Operations, and Compliance to implement process improvements and strengthen controls.
