Job summary

Suncor is seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst to join the Environmental Commodities segment within the ST&O group at our Calgary head office. You will provide accounting expertise across emissions programs, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting to support commercial operations in a fast-paced energy trading environment.

The role requires a CPA or equivalent, a strong background in accounting principles, and proficiency with Power BI, SAP S4/Fiori, and Triple Point.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field with 7+ years of experience.
• CPA/CMA/CGA/CA designation with solid financial accounting knowledge.
• Proficiency in Power BI, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
• Working knowledge of SAP S4, SAP Fiori; Triple Point (TPT) knowledge is an asset.
• Analytical mindset with ability to communicate insights; strong self-motivation and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key finance partner for Environmental Commodities in ST&O and provide insights.
• Develop expertise in provincial and federal emission programs and accounting implications.
• Support month-end cycle: journal entries, analysis, reconciliations, reporting.
• Collaborate with Accounting Policy to ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Partner with Finance, Trading, Operations, and Compliance to drive process improvements and controls.

Are you a finance or accounting professional with experience in the energy, commodities or trading industries and a passion for supporting commercial operations? We are seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst to join our dynamic Controllers team, supporting the Supply, Trading & Optimization (ST&O) team. In this role, you will provide accounting expertise to our Environmental Commodities group, which plays a critical role in managing Suncor's regularly evolving renewable fuel obligations and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction requirements. Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with 7+ years of related experience, preferably within the energy, commodities, or trading sectors.

• A financial designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) with a solid understanding of financial and accounting principles

• Proficiency in Power BI, Excel and other Microsoft Office programs

• Working knowledge of SAP S4, SAP Fiori, with Triple Point (TPT) knowledge being an asset

• Proven analytical skills and a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to communicate complex information into meaningful insights

• Self-motivated and able to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a key finance partner for Environmental Commodities team in ST&O: understand key business value drivers and performance metrics, and providing insights that support business decisions

• Develop expertise in provincial and federal emission programs and their associated accounting and financial reporting implications

• Support the team with executing the Emission Accounting month end cycle, including preparing journal entries, month end analysis and reconciliations, reporting on 3rd Party, intercompany, and balance sheet and expense positions

• Collaborate closely with the Accounting Policy team to ensure appropriate accounting treatment is applied for evolving business activities

• Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Trading, Operations, and Compliance to identify and implement process improvements, enhance controls, system improvements, and financial analysis and business insights

Location and other Key Details:

• You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150-6th Ave S.W.

• Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
