Job summary

The Ottawa Hospital is seeking a Specialist 1, Quality to lead strategic planning, analysis, and coordination of quality and performance initiatives across the organization. The role supports education and collaborates to improve processes in line with hospital policies.

You will drive patient safety projects, facilitate committees, and report indicators to stakeholders while contributing to dissemination of results through presentations and publications.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or a related discipline required.
• Three years of experience in a health care environment.
• Quality and patient safety training completed.
• Knowledge of hospital organization and health care delivery systems.
• Demonstrated project management experience and quality improvement initiatives.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Position Information

The Specialist 1, Quality is responsible for the strategic planning, analysis, management of work/process flows, and coordination of corporate and regional committee activities to ensure that program strategy and quality/performance indicators are met. This role will support collaborators, facilitate education and compliance, monitor for operational issues, identify gaps in service, and provide recommendations for opportunities to improve methodology and processes in adherence with organizational policies and procedures.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

What You Will Do

• Identifies and reviews incidents related to patient safety in SLS;


• Coordinates, advises, and implements special projects related to quality improvement and patient safety as required;


• Leads and facilitates corporate patient safety initiatives and committees as required;


• Contributes to dissemination of quality and patient safety activities and results through presentation and publication;


• Supports education and training related to quality improvement and patient safety as required;


• Reporting on quality and patient safety indicators to internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Requirements

• Completion of an Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or a related discipline;


• Three (3) years experience working in a health care environment;


• Completion of quality and patient safety training;


• Knowledge of hospital organization and health care delivery systems;


• Knowledge of clinical care guidelines and best practices;


• Demonstrated previous project management experience;


• Demonstrated previous experience with quality improvement initiatives;


• Knowledge of quality improvement principles and methods;


• Strong understanding of Process Improvement Methods;


• Ability to lead and motivate people to embrace quality improvement philosophy and management;


• Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders;


• Ability to lead and facilitate change;


• Self directed and works independently;


• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;


• Excellent oral and written communication skills;


• Experience in project planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting;


• Excellent interpersonal skills;


• Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, ability to balance multiple priorities;


• Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for report generation and graphics presentation;


• Knowledgeable about Standards of Health Services Accreditation;


• Proficiency with use of audiovisual equipment;


• Eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in a health-related discipline;


• Additional training in quality improvement, project management and patient safety (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, project management certification, patient safety certification, human factors in healthcare);


• Proficient statistical analysis skills;


• Ability to see trends in data and apply problem solving principles;


• Knowledge of patient safety principles;


• Understanding of process improvement methods;


• Experience in delivering education/training within a healthcare environment;


• Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced).
