Job summary

The Ottawa Hospital is seeking a registered nurse with critical care experience for a temporary assignment through September 1, 2027. The role involves 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends, within a fast-paced ICU environment.

Fluency in English and French at an advanced level is required. Applicants must hold a College of Nurses of Ontario certification and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing education and professional development within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.

• Knowledge of the nursing process and ability to apply it to nursing practice.
• Theoretical knowledge of care of general patients and ability to apply this in a clinical setting.
• Ability to assess learning needs and plan teaching.
• Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional and respectful attitude to patients and public; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in English and French (advanced levels) both oral and comprehension.

Basic Requirements

• Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
• Two (2) years critical care nursing experience;
• Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and a willingness to actively participate in departmental educational activities;
• Demonstrates a knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply this process to the practice of nursing;
• Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the care of the general patient in the unit and the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
• Demonstrates the ability to assess the patient's learning needs and ability to plan appropriate teaching;
• Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously and within the multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment;
• Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, the public and colleagues;
• Demonstrates well developed communication and interpersonal skills;
• Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced).

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years medical surgical nursing experience and has successfully completed a critical care program or consolidation in critical care;
• Recent courses in coronary care, critical care; UoHI Cardiac Nursing Series;
• Experience reading and interpreting 12 lead ECG's;
• Member RNAO;
• Member CCCN.
