Job description

We are now hiring for Sous Chefs to work in our flight kitchen located at the Vancouver airport. This position is represented by a labor Union and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Salary: $30.00 gross per hour

Position Summary:

The Sous Chef is responsible for all Culinary and Food Safety Standards, role modeling the values and culture of the organization as well as supporting their team through training and coaching. Provides culinary expertise and leadership; promotes quality food services and ensures food safety and sanitation requirements are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure food specifications and quality standards meet all Company and customer requirements.
  2. Ensure timely, proper, and efficient preparation of all food items according to menu specifications, recipes, and passenger load requirements.
  3. Coordinate with Food Assembly Team Leads/Staff to ensure the timely supply of food, preventing delays in flight assembly.
  4. Supervise department for quality and quantity; ensure items are produced and dated according to specifications and regulations such as HACCP.
  5. Support and train new hires for successful job performance.
  6. Manage ingredient ordering and receiving, maintaining accurate inventories.
  7. Coordinate with Production Admin for daily production planning and report errors for accuracy.
  8. Adhere to safety procedures and maintain cleanliness to ensure product quality.
  9. Supervise cleaning of equipment and proper storage according to SOP.
  10. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings.
  11. Conduct quality checks on food and raw materials as needed.
  12. Provide performance feedback to staff daily.
Job Specific Requirements:
  • Minimum 1-3 years as a Junior Sous Chef and/or Sous Chef.
  • Minimum 2-5 years as a cook.
  • Previous supervisory experience in high-volume food production or catering.
  • In-flight catering or high-volume food service experience is an asset.
Employee Capabilities:
  • Availability for various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
Education Requirements:
  • Culinary degree or cooking certification preferred.
  • Red Seal or equivalent certification preferred.
