The Calgary Board of Education seeks a Senior Reporting & Strategic Writing Specialist to translate complex data into clear narratives for senior leadership, the Board, Alberta Education, and the public.
You will develop system-level reports, speaking notes, and board materials, ensuring accuracy, adherence to priorities, and provincial requirements; collaboration with data experts and service units is essential.

FTE:1.0 - 35 hours per week
This is a year-round position and is eligible to participate in the organization's Earned Days Off (EDO) program, providing additional scheduled time off from June to August in accordance with program guidelines
The Senior Reporting & Strategic Writing Specialist works with senior leadership (including Directors and other senior system leaders) and partners across Service Units to develop high-quality, system-level reporting and written materials that support organizational accountability, transparency, and decision-making.
This role translates complex data, analysis, policy, and operational information into clear, accurate, and accessible narratives for diverse audiences, including senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, Alberta Education and Childcare, and the public and plays a role in shaping how the organization communicates performance, progress, risks, and outcomes across service areas.
The Senior Reporting & Strategic Writing Specialist ensures all materials align with organizational priorities, legislative and provincial reporting requirements, and best practices in communication. The role requires a strategic thinker who can provide professional advice on messaging, structure, and clarity, contributing to public confidence while protecting the organization’s reputation.
This job is accountable to:
Work independently and collaboratively with senior leadership and internal clients across Service Units to plan, develop, and deliver complex system-level reports and written products aligned with organizational priorities and provincial requirements.
Lead the development and coordination of major corporate and Board-facing reporting materials, inclusive of any reports required by Alberta Education and Childcare (ECC) or the Board, as well as any other legislated and public reports, along with associated summaries and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with Communications and other partners to provide guidance on structure, clarity, tone, accessibility, and alignment of written materials.
Synthesize complex data, technical information, policy content, and input from multiple stakeholders into clear, concise, and meaningful narratives tailored to diverse audiences.
Ensure all written products meet high standards of quality, accuracy, consistency, and alignment, recognizing their significance in public reporting and system accountability.
Identify risks and sensitivities related to interpretation, clarity, completeness, and messaging in Board, provincial, and public reporting, and provide recommendations to mitigate risk and support defensible reporting.
Manage competing priorities and timelines while responding to emerging issues, leadership requests, and reporting cycles.
Collaborate with data, subject matter experts, and system leaders to ensure alignment between data, analysis, and narrative content across service areas.
Identify and implement improvements to reporting processes, templates, tools, and documentation standards to enhance clarity, consistency, efficiency, and system coherence.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant policies, regulations, and legislative requirements.
The Senior Reporting & Strategic Writing Specialist plans, collaborates, leads pieces of, and supports the development of reporting and written materials from initial concept through to final production. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
