Senior Occupational Health Advisor - Corporate Services

About the Role

Reporting to the Occupational Health Director, the Senior Occupational Health Advisor plays a key role in managing disability claims, promoting health and wellness initiatives, and coordinating return-to-work plans across Canada and the USA. The role involves ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and workplace policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage disability claims to resolution, developing case management plans to support recovery and safe return to work.
  • Assess and adjust return-to-work plans based on medical documentation; identify barriers and negotiate modifications.
  • Liaise with healthcare providers, insurers, and treatment providers to facilitate return-to-work plans.
  • Review insurer correspondence to determine decision suitability.
  • Identify when additional assessments or supports are needed.
  • Gather relevant data, analyze facts, and make decisions on fitness for work.
  • Develop and deliver health, wellness, and disability management training.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation and standards.
  • Coordinate COVID-19 related initiatives.
  • Plan and implement health and wellness programs.
  • Prioritize customer service, attention to detail, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop reports, spreadsheets, and tracking systems.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-secondary diploma in a health-related field is an asset.
  • CDMP designation or equivalent is required; HSA/NCSO or equivalent is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in case management and return-to-work planning.
  • Strong knowledge of disability management best practices.
  • Experience in medium to large construction organizations is an asset.
  • Ability to recognize limits of own knowledge and seek assistance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Understanding of medical terminology related to the role.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Maintain professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and Service Desk Management systems.
